In the drinking water market, we often see the words "natural artesian water." This phrase sounds appealing, promising purity and benefits. However, is what is called "natural" always truly so? Let's figure it out, because the concept of "natural water" has a clear definition, approved by state standards, in particular in the State Sanitary Rules and Norms "Hygienic requirements for drinking water intended for human consumption" (DSanPiN 2.2.4-171-10):
2.2. Depending on the technology of obtaining, the following types of drinking water are distinguished:
treated - drinking water produced from water obtained from surface drinking water sources, underground drinking water sources by purification or demineralization;
untreated (natural) - water obtained directly from underground drinking water sources, which, by all indicators, meet the requirements of Sanitary Norms without their purification (except for clarification) or demineralization.
That is, natural water is water that is so naturally pure that it does not require any processing or alteration of its chemical or molecular composition. This is a key point that is often ignored by many manufacturers.
Artesian water: always ideal?
Many believe that water from an artesian well is automatically ideal, pure, and beneficial. However, this is not entirely true. Artesian water is underground water that is under pressure between impermeable layers of soil. Thanks to this natural filtration through rocks, it is generally protected from surface contamination. However, despite its deep origin, artesian water often contains dissolved minerals, the concentration of which may be too high for direct consumption.
For example, common problems with artesian waters include elevated iron content, hardness salts (calcium and magnesium), and sometimes other trace elements that exceed permissible norms for drinking water. In order to bring such water to sanitary norms and make it safe for daily consumption, manufacturers are forced to apply various treatment methods: deferrization, softening (to remove hardness salts), or use reverse osmosis systems. These processes, although they make the water safer, at the same time change its original chemical and molecular composition.
That is why a well from which water is already extracted that is completely suitable for drinking without any additional treatment is a great rarity. This is a real gift of nature, which is extremely rare. Such water has a unique natural balance of minerals that has formed over millennia. It is already so perfect that any intervention would only disrupt its harmony. Finding such a well is the result not only of geographical location, but also of the unique geological composition of the rocks through which the water filtered.
Marketing tricks or reality?
Let's look at how this works in practice. The certificate of conformity for drinking water must necessarily indicate its type: "purified" or "natural." And this is where the main difference lies. The vast majority of manufacturers who loudly declare the "naturalness" of their water actually subject it to various types of treatment: deferrization, softening, and most often – purification with molecular filters (reverse osmosis filters).
Manufacturers create the appearance that the very extraction of water from an artesian well gives the right to call it natural. At the same time, an important fact is silenced: when treated with reverse osmosis, the source of the initial water absolutely does not matter. The molecular structure and chemical composition of the water ultimately change so much that there is no longer any difference – whether this water was extracted from a deep artesian well or taken from the city water supply. In essence, such water loses its original, natural identity.
"Sribna" – the standard of truly natural water
That is why "Sribna" water is truly natural drinking water. Its uniqueness lies in the fact that it fundamentally does not need chemical composition improvement due to its natural purity. We do not interfere with what nature has created perfectly.
The natural origin of "Sribna" drinking water is fully confirmed and reflected in our certificate of conformity, where it is clearly stated: "Natural artesian drinking water". These are not just words, this is an official document that guarantees the quality and authenticity of our water.
How to recognize real natural water?
To be sure that you are buying real natural water, pay attention to the following points:
- The presence of a certificate of conformity for this type of water: If the water manufacturer does not provide a certificate on its website or the certificate indicates the name of another water, this is already a reason to think.
- Type of water in the certificate: The certificate must clearly indicate the type of water - "natural". If it says "treated / purified" or the origin is not specified - it is not natural water.
- Description of water on the website: Even if the certificate says "natural", but in the description of the water on the website you see "7-8-9 stages of purification" - it is not natural water.
- Several types of "natural" water of the same name, from the same well, but with different chemical composition: There is nothing to say, at best only one of them can be called natural.
- Level of mineralization or dry residue: Water that has these indicators less than 120-150 mg/l - 100% has passed through reverse osmosis. Natural water usually has a mineralization of 200-500 mg/l.
In general, if anywhere about water you see words like "purified / treated / softened / enriched / demineralized / blended" - this is not natural water.
An interesting fact - in a Google search for "natural water Kyiv" on the first two pages of results there are ALMOST NO manufacturers (except for a maximum of one or two) that offer water of their own production, which can be called "natural". Almost all water is either softened or demineralized.
True natural drinking water is a rarity. Its uniqueness, originality and naturalness determine its value, and therefore it will always cost more than ordinary purified water that has undergone reverse osmosis treatment.
Do not allow yourself to be deceived. Do not buy fakes and imitations. Choose truly natural water that retains all its original properties and benefits – choose "Sribna" water. After all, your health is worth only the best, real, and natural!
